Both daisies and sunflowers belong to the plant family Compositae which bear a composite flower-head made up of numerous tiny flowers (florets). The flower seen here is composed of yellow disc florets on which the bee is standing, surrounded by a ring of ray florets bearing the elongated red petals. These flowers are prolific sources of pollen for bees. Pollen is transferred from flower to flower, allowing cross-pollination of the female parts of the flower and subsequent seed production.
