DNA Biochip. Computer artwork of a DNA Biochip, a piece of biotechnology used for cheap and rapid simultaneous analyses, for example infectious organisms in samples of blood. It consists of a glass slide holding dots of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid; red, green, blue). Each dot contains a different piece of DNA, designed to bind to a specific gene on the DNA of the test sample. The Biochip is then scanned by a laser, which highlights the dots on which a reaction has taken place. The known distribution of the DNA on the chip allows the results to be interpreted and the sample identified.
