The sample tubes contain solvents used to extract nutrients from the food as part of the process of determining the amount of nutrients they contain. This experiment is part of the Food Multimix (FMM) project at the University of Greenwich, London, UK. It mixes food to obtain high nutrient content, rather than adding supplements to the food. The resulting foods are intended to boost nutrient levels in the diet in developing countries, especially countries affected by AIDS, since the effectiveness of HIV drugs is reduced in patients with a poor diet. The project was announced in 2004.
