Preparing a tissue sample. Researcher using a microtome to cut a tissue sample. The microtome is kept at sub-zero temperatures. It is used when cutting thin section of potentially hazardous tissues. Keeping the tissue to be cut frozen allows very thin slices to be cut and helps prevent any micro-organisms present from leaving the tissue.
