The gun must be made safe by removing the magazine before transport. It must also be handled carefully, with gloved hands, to preserve any evidence such as fingerprints. The officer's other items of protective clothing are also to prevent contamination of the crime scene. Test-firing of this gun will allow it to be linked to bullets and cartridge shells found at the crime scene.
