Sir John Robert Vane (1927-2004), British pharmacologist and Nobel laureate. Vane was knighted in 1984. Vane shared the 1982 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Sune K. Bergstrom and Bengt I. Samuelsson. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Vane's work on prostaglandins and related biologically active substances.
