Arthritis of the spine, coloured X-ray. The discs of cartilage (yellow) separating the bones of the spine (vertebrae, green) have been damaged by osteoarthritis. The upper discs have collapsed, making the spine curve. Osteoarthritis is usually associated with aging. Symptoms include pain, stiffness and swelling. There is no cure, although the symptoms can be relieved with drugs.
