The Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is an inherited condition resulting from a defect in the enzyme, lysyl oxidase, that causes the linkage of tropocollagen molecules into collagen fibres. Collagen is a protein that is widely distributed in animal connective tissue where it acts as binding agent for the cells which comprise the various tissues. It also provides the matrix to which calcium salts are added to form bone & as the substance of scars & tendons displays a high tensile strength.
