Bladder inflammation (cystitis). Gross specimen of a bladder (dissected to reveal the interior) in a case of cystitis. Instead of the normal healthy pink colour, the inside of the bladder has turned black. In this case, the severe inflammation is due to congestion and oedema, which is an abnormal accumulation of blood and fluid respectively. The treatment is of the underlying cause, which could be a bacterial infection.
