Stomach polyp. Gastroscope (endoscope) view of a gastric inflammatory polyp (lower centre) also known as a pseudopolyp. This pear-shaped (polypoid) lesion is often mistaken for a benign epithelial tumour (adenoma). Microscopic examination of the polyp is required to differentiate between the two types. Pseudopolyps may be the cause of gastric bleeding and are usually removed surgically (excision biopsy) to halt further complications.
