Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, air spaces in the facial bones around the nose and eyes which are lined with mucous membranes. Sinusitis is normally caused by bacterial infection of the membranes or as a complication of viral infections like a common cold or influenza (flu). Viral infections can also cause pain through nasal blockage. Treatment is by antibiotics and decongestants.
