MODEL RELEASED. Laparoscopy. Surgeon uses a laparoscope (type of endoscope) during a surgical procedure in an operating theatre. A laparoscope is a steel viewing instrument containing optical fibres and a light source. As here, it often has remotely-controllable surgical instruments, seen operated by the surgeon's right hand. A laparoscope allows the surgeon access to internal body organs, which may also be displayed on video monitors. In this way certain injuries, growths, or internal disorders, particularly in the abdomen, can be investigated and sometimes rectified without resorting to major surgery.
