Machine used for blood gas analysis, seen in the anaesthetics room adjacent to an operating theatre, showing a technician introducing a sample of blood into the aspirator tube. The device provides digital information on pH, oxygen tension (pO2) & carbon dioxide tension (pCO2), from a 0.2ml sample of blood. Samples are introduced through the aspirator (bottom right), which sucks the blood into the reference electrode cell. Advantages of the system are small sample size, & the ability to provide an almost instantaneous result.
