MODEL RELEASED. Group therapy. A counsellor listens attentively to an elderly man and woman during a group therapy session, possibly for marriage guidance. In group therapy, interaction among members of the group, mediated by a trained therapist, is thought to help resolve emotional or psychological problems, such as alcoholism. Marriage guidance aims to promote communication between a couple experiencing difficulties with their relationship. The counsellor may help each partner to change the way they behave towards the other, or may refer them for sex therapy, where they are encouraged to increase their understanding of each other's sexual needs.
