Chemotherapy in cancer normally involves the administration of a cytotoxic drug, frequently an alkylating agent. This is administered intravenously. Cytotoxics can result in a cure in a minority of cases, but are particularly used for survival prolongation or palliative relief of symptoms. Dosage of cytotoxins is treated on a case-by-case basis, and is administered by specially-trained personnel.
