Drug prevention of malaria. Two chemoprophylaxis drugs used against malaria. The box and bubble strip contain Avloclor tablets (250mg, equivalent to 150mg of chloroquine base, generic name chloroquine phosphate); the bottle contains the smaller tablets of Paludrine (100mg, generic name proguanil hydrochloride). These drugs are taken before, during and up to four weeks after a visit to an infected area. In adults, chloroquine is normally taken as a 300mg dose (base equivalent) once per week, proguanil as a 200mg dose once per day. In high-risk areas, the two may be used in conjunction at these doses.
