Liquorice roots. Bundle of liquorice roots (Glycyrrhiza sp.) wrapped up in a piece of material for use in herbal medicine. Liquorice is used extensively in cough remedies and for other chest complaints. The roots are boiled in water and the water drunk for this purpose. It is also used as a flavouring to mask the bitter tastes of some other medicines.
