Uterine hyperplasia. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of a human uterus lining (endometrium) showing simple hyperplasia. Uterine hyperplasia is a reaction in the endometrium to excessive or uncoordinated ovarian hormone production. Surface epithelial cells (blue) proliferate in both size and number. Here, normal cells are at right of frame, larger hyperplastic cells are at left. The irregular surface of all the epithelial cells is due to the presence of microvilli projections. Some cells have hair-like cilia (green). Holes (purple) in the normal epithelium are the entrances to glands. Magnification: x400 at 5x7cm. x1400 at 10x8"~LANDSCAPE"
