MODEL RELEASED. Infant CPR training. Woman being taught how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an infant, using a mannequin. She is compressing the heart. CPR is a combination of artificial respiration (mouth-to- mouth resuscitation) and heart massage (cardiac compressions, seen here). It is used if an infant has gone into cardiac arrest (heart stopped beating) and if breathing has stopped or is very shallow. Infants should be placed on a hard surface before CPR is begun. The chest should be compressed gently with the fingers just below the nipple line. 5 heart compressions should be followed by one small breath.
