This organ receives and stores bile from the liver through the bile duct (lower centre and centre left) which drains the biliary ducts of the liver (seen in liver tissue at upper and lower left). The bile is released into the digestive tract to aid in fat digestion. The internal surface (centre right) of the gall bladder is shown with the columnar cells of this surface (lower right).
