False-colour arteriograph (angiograph) of the arteries in the neck, shoulders & upper chest regions of a healthy person. Arteriography is the x-ray examination of an artery that has been outlined by prior injection of a radio-opaque contrast medium. The aorta is evident at bottom (as a well-defined arch); arising from this is the left-side common carotid artery which supplies blood to the neck & head (the right common carotid is also visible). Both left & right side subclavian arteries are visible, branching to the left & right along the shoulders; these supply oxygenated blood to the arms.
