Abdominal arteries. Coloured angiogram of healthy iliac arteries. The spine is seen as green blocks running down centre, the pelvis is at lower centre. The aorta, the body's main artery, is running down upper centre of the image. It carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The aorta branches into the two common iliac arteries, which then further divide into the internal and external iliac arteries at bottom right and left. The internal iliac artery supplies blood to the viscera and walls of the pelvis, while the external iliac artery supplies the legs. Angiography uses an injected contrast material to show blood vessels on a X-ray.
