The fibre consists of a nerve cell axon (irregular oval), the output process of a nerve cell, and Schwann cells (with dark green nuclei). Around the fibre is fibroelastic connective tissue containing fibroblasts and collagen (brown). Collagen is often associated with elastic fibres, which are common in this highly elastic organ.
