The average male Caucasian face was produced by combining the features of 25 volunteers aged between 19 and 23. The face was then distorted on a computer to enhance particular features. For instance, to masculinise a face, the jaw and brows were made more prominent. To feminise, the lips were made fuller, and the face given a younger look. Both male and female test subjects found the feminised face more attractive, seeing the masculinised one as more dishonest and violent.
