Simulating micrometeoroid impacts. Researcher studying the effect of collisions with tiny, dust-sized particles (micrometeoroids) on materials used in satellites. Although these particles are tiny, they may hit satellites at very high speed. He is using a laser to simulate impacts that produce pressure of around a thousand tonnes per square centimetre. Photographed at the Laboratoire de Combustion et de Detonique, Futuroscope, Poitiers, France.
