Stacks of drums would be supported by the rods projecting upwards from the floor. Low-level waste is normally taken away from a power station to a purpose-built repository. However, this facility is capable of storing drums for a number of years. Low-level waste is normally comprised of a mixture of contaminated materials, including air filters, cleaning materials, oils and grease, building materials, and decommissioned plant equipment. There are strict limits to the radioactivity of material classed as low-level waste.
