Kismet robot. Parts of the Kismet android robot. Kismet was developed to study action recognition and learning, particularly that of infants. It has several moods, which are displayed by facial expressions. Kismet responds to visual stimuli like a baby. Pleasing visual stimuli cause it to look happy, while a lack of stimuli cause it to show a sad expression. Too much stimulation causes it to become distressed. Like a child, Kismet responds best to bright colours and moderate movements. Kismet was designed by Cynthia Breazeal, a researcher at the Artificial Intelligence Lab of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), USA.
