MODEL RELEASED. Nanomuscle motor moving toy eyes. The eyes are being held by Rod MacGregor, the head of NanoMuscle Inc., USA. The motors measure just 7.6 centimetres in length. They utilise the shape memory" property of nitinol, a nickel-titanium alloy, which can assume different shapes depending on the surrounding temperature. The temperatures can be of such a small range that an electric current from a battery is sufficient to cause an effect. One of the first applications of these motors is in the controlling of physical features of a toy doll to be manufactured by Hasbro. Photographed in 2002."
