Information superhighway. Abstract image of a portable computer connected to a global communica- tion network or information superhighway. On the computer's screen is an image of a computer, which in turn has another computer on its screen. Computers can communicate with each other through a complex network of connections, including over telephone lines. An international network, the Internet, has been established for the free exchange of ideas and information. The Internet includes the World Wide Web (WWW). Users of the WWW are able to navigate between computers to access text and pictures held in hypertext files.
