Jeremiah, interactive virtual head created by Dr Richard Bowden of the University of Surrey, England. Jeremiah is capable of recognising people and objects and responding to their behaviour by displaying emotion. For example, he will respond to a visual stimulus, such as a person waving, by smiling. If nothing is happening, he displays sadness. If he is ignored, he will become angry. Jeremiah is based on technology developed for a security system. He can run on a single PC. Jeremiah is used in educational performances along with human actors. His head is projected onto canvas, above which is a camera providing his visual input.
