Crash testing (image 4 of 4). High-speed photograph of crash test dummies in a car hitting a wall at 56 kilometres per hour. Most of the dummies are unrestrained. The doors of the car have been replaced by a bracing bar to show the movements of the dummies more clearly. A child who was sitting on the back seat is being flung through the windscreen. Film of the crash, along with analysis of the damage to the car and sensor readings from the dummies, may be used to improve car design or road safety. Photographed at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), England. For a sequence of this crash see images T615/186-189.
