Chemical weapons disposal. Technicians handling drums containing chemical weapons. Photographed at the US Army's Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, Utah, USA. These drums will be loaded onto a conveyor belt before the contents are incinerated in a furnace burning at 1500 degrees Centigrade. The facility was built to destroy the US chemical weapons stockpile, in compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention. The facility started work on August 22, 1996. When the destruction of the stockpile is complete (scheduled for 2007), the facility will be dismantled.
