Banknote security. Image 1 of 2. Operator using the RAPACE system to help detect counterfeit Euro banknotes. RAPACE (Repertoire Automatise Pour l'Analyse des Contrefacons de l'Euro) is a system that has been developed by the French police. It allows the operator to work with an enquirer by exchanging information by telephone. The computer lists known counterfeiting flaws in the security features of banknotes, such as the serial number, security hologram (on the screen), and errors in printing and watermarks. The operator guides the enquirer through a checklist to find out if the banknote is a known fake. For a RAPACE enquirer, see image T980/304.
