Banknote security. Operator using the RAPACE system to help detect counterfeit Euro banknotes. RAPACE (Repertoire Automatise Pour l'Analyse des Contrefacons de l'Euro) is a system that has been developed by the French police. It allows the operator to work with an enquirer by exchanging information by telephone. The computer lists known counterfeiting flaws in the security features of banknotes, such as the serial number and security hologram. Errors in printing and watermarks are located using the reference grid seen here (the enquirer has an identical grid). The operator will guide the enquirer through a checklist to find out if the banknote is a known fake.
