Tycho Brahe's observatory. Historical artwork of Stjerneborg Observatory built by the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546-1601). This observat- ory was near his main observatory, Uraniborg, on Hveen, an island between Sweden and Denmark. Stjerneborg was less exposed to wind and had two underground chambers (one is seen at lower centre with ports open). Brahe made the most accurate measurements of the stars possible with the naked eye (to two arcminutes). Despite this accuracy, Brahe's work suffered from his obstinate belief that the Earth was the centre of the Universe, in contradiction to Copernicus' earlier work.
