Astronomical clock, Prague, Czech Republic. This was long thought to have been built in 1490, but it is now thought to date from 1410, though it has been added to over the years. There are two dials. The upper dial is astronomical with three pointers showing the rotation of the Sun, Moon and stars. The inner symbols are zodiacal. The outer symbols mark a 24-hour clock. The lower calendrical dial has an inner ring of zodiacal signs and an outer ring of signs for each month of the year. The many statues include Death (upper right) who tolls the bell. The clock is part of the Old Town Hall. It was very heavily damaged in the Second World War, before being restored to its original appearance.
