Charon from Pluto. Artwork of the surface of Pluto, with Charon and the two smaller moons of Pluto seen in the sky, along with the Sun. Pluto's very thin atmosphere is also seen. Pluto and Charon orbit some 19,100 kilometres from each other, and are so similar in mass that they orbit a point between them, rather than inside Pluto. The two smaller moons were discovered in May 2005, and are called S/2005 P1 and S/2005 P2, or P1 and P2. They orbit some 65,000km and 50,000km respectively from the point around which Charon and Pluto orbit.
