Magnetic binary star system, artwork. Two Sun-like but highly magnetic stars orbiting each other as part of a binary star system. The stars are close enough for their magnetic fields to be entangled, and this is causing the large amounts of stellar activity seen here. Large prominences, sunspots and flares are seen. This type of binary star system is called an RS Canum Venaticorum (RS CVn) binary system, after the star system of that name.
