Active galaxy 0313-192. Combined Hubble Space Telescope and radio telescope image of bipolar jets (red) coming from the spiral galaxy 0313-192. The jets comprise subatomic particles travelling at nearly the speed of light, which are thought to have been accelerated and focused by a massive, rapidly-spinning black hole at the galaxy's core. It was formerly thought that such jets were only produced by elliptical galaxies or those colliding with other galaxies. 0313-192 is a member of the loose galaxy cluster Abell 428, and it is thought that interactions from other members may aid the formation and maintenance of the jets.
