Portuguese maritime monument. This Monument to the Discoverers, Lisbon, Portugal, was completed in 1960. It commemorates the Portuguese navigators of the 15th and 16th centuries who found new lands across the oceans in the Age of Discovery. Prince Henry the Navigator (1394-1460) is at the front of the monument. He organised and financed voyages of discovery that found the sea-route to India around Africa.
