Atherosclerosis. X-ray of a patient with atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta (white, down centre). The aorta is the body's main artery, it carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. At upper centre the aorta is narrowed. This is due to atherosclerosis, the build up of fatty plaques in the artery.
