Pouchitis, endoscope view. This is the inflammation of an artificial rectum, known as an ileal pouch, formed in patients that have had their large intestine removed. The pouch is formed from part of the small intestine. Symptoms include faecal incontinence, bloody diarrhoea and dehydration. Treatment is with antibiotics and probiotic supplements.
