Hooks and loops fastener, coloured environmental scanning electron micrograph (ESEM). This device consists of two different parts, upper and lower. The lower part has coils of plastic thread which form hooks. The upper part consists of a tangle of finer threads which get caught by the hooks on the first part. This combination is used to fasten clothes and other fabrics.
