Giant sequoia section. Labelled museum display of a section from the giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum). This redwood is one of the largest species of tree on Earth, and among the largest living organisms. Trunks of this tree can reach diameters of 6-8 metres. This tree, nearly 5 metres across, was over 1300 years old when it was felled in California, USA, in 1891. The labels list moments in world history during this tree's lifetime. This display is in the Central Hall of the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
