Daughter of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing, son of Apollo, Hygeia was the goddess of good health, cleanliness, and sanitation. In classical sculpture she was frequently represented as a woman with a serpent or snake coiled about one arm, and offering it an egg or food from a medicine bowl. The sleeping winged cherub is identifed as Hypnos, the god of sleep. 2nd century AD.
