Various forms of mud, sand and clay, combined with fibrous materials, have been used in construction worldwide since ancient times. This artwork shows equipment and tools used (bottom), while a system of boards (top) are used to mark out the boundaries of the wall. This opaque watercolour, in the Kashmir style, dates from the 1850s.
