Hindhead Tunnel at night. These are the southern ends of a dual-carriageway tunnel on the A3 bypass near Hindhead, Surrey, UK. The parallel twin tunnels pass beneath Hindhead Common and the Devil's Punch Bowl, taking traffic away from these two environmentally sensitive areas, the latter being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Construction began in January 2007 and the tunnels opened in July 2011. Each tunnel is around 10 metres in diameter, carrying two lanes of traffic. They are 1.8 kilometres long, making them among the longest road tunnels in the UK. Photographed on 6 June 2013.
