Insect radar research. Radar scientist Dr Jason Lim observing data from a scanning horizontal radar which is tracking the movement of a single honeybee. Scanning horizontal (also known as a harmonic) radar is used to track the movement of low flying insects, such as honeybees and butterflies that have been tagged with tiny transponders. The tracking station transmits a radar signal which is bounced back by the transponder at a different frequency and read by the station. Photographed at the Rothamsted Research, UK.
