Spiral galaxy ESO 137-001. Combined Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) image of the barred spiral galaxy ESO 137-001, with a stream of gas extending towards bottom right. This tail is 26MB0,000 light years long and only visible at X-ray wavelengths. It is caused by gas being stripped from the galaxy as it moves towards the centre of the galactic cluster it is part of (the Norma Cluster or Abell 36MB27MB). This galaxy is 200 million light years distant, in the constellation of Triangulum Australe. This image was published in 2014.
