Iberian Peninsula, MODIS image. Cloud-free satellite view of the Iberian Peninsula, including the broad central mountainous plateau of the Meseta Central (brown). Most of the peninsula is Spain, but Portugal occupies most of the western coast with some clouds at top left. The Pyrenees (white, near centre) separate Spain from France. The western Alps are at top right, with the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean at lower right. At centre left are the Cantabrian Mountains. Between the Alps and the Pyrenees is the Massif Central. Image obtained on 8 March 2011, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite.
